2. Creating a MSHelp2 Project

Step by Step

  1. In Helpware FAR HTML:
    1. Click on the H.x.C. Editor in the toolbar.
  2. The Create or Open a M.S. Help Project window opens.
    1. Your H2_Output folder name should show in the Look-in field.
    2. Your newly created H.x.C. file should show in the display area.
    3. Click on the H.x.C. file to highlight it.
    4. Click on the Open button.
  3. The Helpware FAR HTML H2 Project Editor opens.
    1. Click on the New Help Project Wizard button.
  4. The 1. Choose a Help System dialog box opens.
    1. Make sure that the M.S. Help 2.x radio button is checked (default).
    2. Click the Next button.
  5. The 2. Choose a M.S. Help 2.x Project File dialog box opens.
    1. In the blank dropdown field, use the Browse button to open your H2_Output folder.
    2. Click your H.x.C. file to highlight it.
    3. Click the Open button.
  6. This returns you to the 2. Choose a M.S. Help 2.x Project File dialog box.
    1. Your H.x.C. file is now shown in the dropdown field.
    2. Leave the Clear Project Settings checkbox unchecked.
    3. Click the Next button.
  7. The 3. Choose Content Files dialog box opens.
    1. All files from your c.h.m. project (h.t.m.l., c.s.s., g.i.f., etc.) should show here, along with your selected Home and Default page choices.
    2. Click the Next button.
  8. The 4. Configure Help Window dialog box opens.
    1. The Table of Contents, Index and Search checkboxes should resemble their same checked/unchecked state as in your c.h.m. project.
    2. DO NOT change them.
    3. Click the Next button.
  9. The 4.1 Table of Contents dialog box opens.
    1. Your newly created H.x.T. (Table of Contents) file is shown in the field.
    2. Ignore the Create T.O.C. and Edit T.O.C. buttons.
    3. Click the Next button.
  10. The 4.2 Index dialog box opens.
    1. Your newly created H.x.K. (Index) file is shown in the field.
    2. Ignore the Create Index and Edit Index buttons.
    3. Click the Next button.
  11. The 5. Choose Target and Save dialog box opens.
    1. The Help Window Title field should reflect the name of your Help title.
    2. The Target Help File field should reflect the name of the new H.x.S. file to be created.
    3. Check the Save settings when Next is clicked checkbox.
    4. Click the Next button.
  12. The 6. Compile Project dialog box opens.
    1. Click the 2. Open the Advanced Project Editor radio button.
    2. Click the Compile Help button.
  13. The MS Help 2 Compiler window opens and shows the running compile.
    1. Check if there are any Warnings or Errors in the compile results.
    2. If so, go back and correct them before proceeding further.
  14. Important Note:
    1. DO NOT ignore the Warnings that the MSHelp2 Compiler returns.
    2. The MSHelp2 compiler is very specific as to mistakes you may have overlooked in your h.t.m.l. files, and these MUST be fixed before proceeding any further.
  15. If there are no Warnings or Errors, click the Close button.
    1. This returns you to the 6. Compile Project dialog box.
    2. Click the Finished button.
  16. A Confirm to save changes message box appears.
    1. Click Yes to save your changes.
  17. You are now returned to the Helpware FAR HTML H2 Project Editor dialog box.
