A Help Authoring Guide
Step by Step
- In Helpware FAR HTML:
- Click on the H.x.C. Editor in the toolbar.
- The Create or Open a M.S. Help Project window opens.
- Your H2_Output folder name should show in the Look-in field.
- Your newly created H.x.C. file should show in the display area.
- Click on the H.x.C. file to highlight it.
- Click on the Open button.
- The Helpware FAR HTML H2 Project Editor opens.
- Click on the New Help Project Wizard button.
- The 1. Choose a Help System dialog box opens.
- Make sure that the M.S. Help 2.x radio button is checked (default).
- Click the Next button.
- The 2. Choose a M.S. Help 2.x Project File dialog box opens.
- In the blank dropdown field, use the Browse button to open your H2_Output folder.
- Click your H.x.C. file to highlight it.
- Click the Open button.
- This returns you to the 2. Choose a M.S. Help 2.x Project File dialog box.
- Your H.x.C. file is now shown in the dropdown field.
- Leave the Clear Project Settings checkbox unchecked.
- Click the Next button.
- The 3. Choose Content Files dialog box opens.
- All files from your c.h.m. project (h.t.m.l.,
c.s.s., g.i.f., etc.) should show here, along with your selected Home and Default
page choices.
- Click the Next button.
- The 4. Configure Help Window dialog box opens.
- The Table of Contents, Index and Search checkboxes should resemble their same checked/unchecked state as in your c.h.m. project.
- DO NOT change them.
- Click the Next button.
- The 4.1 Table of Contents dialog box opens.
- Your newly created H.x.T. (Table of Contents) file is shown in the field.
- Ignore the Create T.O.C. and Edit T.O.C. buttons.
- Click the Next button.
- The 4.2 Index dialog box opens.
- Your newly created H.x.K. (Index) file is shown in the field.
- Ignore the Create Index and Edit Index buttons.
- Click the Next button.
- The 5. Choose Target and Save dialog box opens.
- The Help Window Title field should reflect the name of your Help title.
- The Target Help File field should reflect the name of the new H.x.S. file to be created.
- Check the Save settings when Next is clicked checkbox.
- Click the Next button.
- The 6. Compile Project dialog box opens.
- Click the 2. Open the Advanced Project Editor radio button.
- Click the Compile Help button.
- The MS Help 2 Compiler window opens and shows the running compile.
- Check if there are any Warnings or Errors in the compile results.
- If so, go back and correct them before proceeding further.
- Important Note:
- DO NOT ignore the Warnings that the MSHelp2 Compiler returns.
- The MSHelp2 compiler is very specific as to mistakes you may have overlooked in your h.t.m.l. files, and these MUST be fixed before proceeding any further.
- If there are no Warnings or Errors, click the Close button.
- This returns you to the 6. Compile Project dialog box.
- Click the Finished button.
- A Confirm to save changes message box appears.
- Click Yes to save your changes.
- You are now returned to the Helpware FAR HTML H2 Project Editor dialog box.
